The Early Boiler replacement rebate can put up to $4,000.00 back in your pocket and the deadline has been extended to November 1st. The extension of this incentive is due to the growing numbers of customers looking to proactively upgrade their aging boiler.
Let’s review some of the eligibility requirements. The applicant must request a free Mass Save  Home Energy Service Program Site Visit before September 30th, 2013 and prior to replacing their boiler. Fuel switching/conversion (oil to gas) is NOT eligible for this offer. The existing boiler must be at least 30 years old and be functional and fueled by natural gas, propane, or oil. Also, the equipment must be installed in a 1-4 family home.
Now we can review the new equipment minimum requirements. For a forced hot water boiler using natural gas or propane for fuel, the minimum AFUE requirements are 90%. Meeting this standard will get you a rebate of $3500.00 for owner occupied and $4,000.00 for non-owner occupied. A steam boiler fired by natural gas or propane is eligible for a $1,900.00 rebate if the AFUE is 82% or greater. The last category is the forced hot water boiler fired by oil that meets the 85% AFUE standard – customers are eligible for a $1,750.00 rebate.
For more info on the program you can click here, but the news of the extension is so hot that the Gas Networks website isn’t even updated yet!
